The Lightbox is Woking's art gallery and local history museum, and one of the town's cultural highlights. It opened in 2007 in a striking modern building beside the Basingstoke Canal, close to the town centre.
A building with a reputation
The Lightbox quickly became a landmark in its own right, and the gallery has been recognised nationally for the quality of its exhibitions and its role in the community. It runs a changing programme of art exhibitions alongside displays telling the story of Woking and its people.
What's inside
The gallery hosts touring and specially curated art shows, while the museum galleries explore the heritage of the town — from its development around the railway to the many notable figures and events connected with Woking. There is also a shop and café.
Visiting
The Lightbox sits on Chobham Road within easy walking distance of the town centre and railway station, making it an easy addition to a day in Woking. It is run as a charity, and admission arrangements and exhibition details are published on its own channels.
