Old Woking is the historic original settlement of Woking, to the south-east of the modern town centre. Before the railway arrived in 1838 and the "new" town grew up around the station, Old Woking was the market town, and it retains a conservation area with older buildings, a historic parish church, and a more traditional village character.
The River Wey runs through the area, and Old Woking has a mix of independent shops and businesses along its High Street. It gives the borough a sense of its long history, in contrast to the modern architecture of the town centre.
