How Much Does a Website Cost in Woking? What You Pay Depends on How You Are Charged

There is no going rate for a website in Woking. There are three ways of being charged, and they add up very differently over a few years. Here is each one, the questions that expose the real cost, and the one fixed price we can quote because it is our own.

What does a website cost in Woking?

It depends on how you are charged, not on where you are. A Woking business will be offered one of three deals: a monthly rental, a one-off build fee, or a do-it-yourself builder subscription. Prices differ from designer to designer, and we are not going to make up figures for other people's businesses.

The one figure we can give you is our own. Dean Keating, who publishes Woking.co, builds websites for £500 one-off. You own the site outright, there is no contract and no monthly fee, and it comes with 200+ pages and 12 months of SEO. Dean is based in Horndean, Hampshire, and works with Woking businesses remotely, sending you a preview to check before anything goes live. See the £500 website build.

Five questions that show you the real cost

Ask these of everyone who quotes, and ask for the answers in writing:

Do I own the website and the domain name? Is there a contract or a minimum term? What will I pay each month or each year once it is live? What do changes cost? Is SEO included, and for how long?

Two quotes can only be compared if they cover the same things.

Paying monthly: a rental

You pay little or nothing at the start, then a fee every month. It is easy to begin, and the fee often covers hosting and small changes.

Ownership is the catch. With many rental deals the site belongs to the provider, so when you stop paying, the site goes. Before you compare a rental with a one-off price, add the monthly fee up over three years and ask whether there is a minimum term.

Paying once: a build fee

You pay once to have the site designed and built, and it is yours. After that you pay the running costs, such as the domain name and hosting, plus any changes you ask for later.

What matters here is what happens after launch: who hosts it, what that costs, and what you are charged for changes.

Doing it yourself: a website builder

You pay a subscription to a website builder and put the site together yourself. It is the cheapest way to get something online, and it suits a business that only needs a simple page.

You pay in time instead, and the result depends on your own skill. A builder site with a handful of pages will rarely appear for searches across several services and several places.

Why a bigger site can cost more

Woking businesses often serve more than one neighbourhood. A cleaner, a builder or an accountant might take work from Woking town centre, Horsell, Knaphill, Goldsworth Park, Old Woking and West Byfleet. A site with a page for each of those places and each service is bigger than a five-page brochure, and that is one reason quotes differ.

After size it is the writing, the photography, any booking or payment features, and whether SEO work after launch is included or charged separately. Ask each designer to list what is in the price.

Where to get quotes

Woking.co does not publish a ranking of web designers, so we cannot hand you a local shortlist. Ask two or three firms for written quotes and put them next to a fixed price so you have something to measure against.

Quick answers

Is there a standard price for a website in Woking? No. It depends on the designer and on whether you pay a one-off build fee, a monthly rental or a builder subscription. Ask for a written quote and whether you will own the site.

What is the fixed price mentioned in this guide? £500 one-off, from Dean Keating, the publisher of Woking.co. You own the site outright, with no contract or monthly fee, 200+ pages built around your services and areas, and 12 months of SEO.

Is a monthly website deal cheaper? It costs less to start. Add the fee up over three years and check who owns the site, because with many monthly deals it belongs to the provider and disappears if you stop paying.

What will I still pay after the site is built? Typically the domain name and hosting, plus any changes you ask for. Get these stated in writing before you agree.

Is a website builder good enough? For a simple one-page presence, if you have the time, yes. It is less likely to appear for searches across several services and places.

Why have you not listed other designers' prices? Because we cannot verify them. Ask each firm directly.
